95th @veloviewer Monsal Hill Climb. The most prestigious cycle hillclimb event in the country. Sunday 5th October 2025. Organised by @Sheffrec_CC

Highlights from the 95th @veloviewer Monsal Hill C Highlights from the 95th @veloviewer Monsal Hill Climb. What an amazing day. 214 courageous riders took on the 675 yard climb to Monsal Head in the picturesque Peak District National Park.

Andy Nichols, Team Lifting Gear Products & Rachel Galler, FTP (Fulfil The Potential) Race Team claimed the overall top spots with some very impressive performances on a windy day.

Well done to Finley Hudson, Harrogate Nova Race for setting a new junior record, Ezra Batema, Clifton CC York for smashing 7.1 seconds off the youth open record, both these have stood for 9 years.

Charlie Openshaw, Team Lifting Gear Products equaled his own 2024 record with a 1:34.8, Gordon Simpson, Cowley Road Condors CC blew away the Brompton record, knocking off a huge 44.9 seconds with a storming ride. Finally, chapeau to Geoff Pickin, PDQ Cycle Coaching who set the Hand Cycle record – amazing ride from Geoff.

A huge thanks to our event partners, VeloViewer, Trek Bramhall, Flycarb, Midpack Art and Peak Tri Store for supporting this year’s event, also thanks to our long time partners, Skyhook Coaching, Simon Warren from 100 Climbs, Blue Strawberry Elephant, St John Ambulance, Chatsworth Estates, Derbyshire Dales District Council, Litton & Cressbrook Parish Council, Keith Adamson and Little Longstone Village Group, Monsal Head Hotel and Hobb’s Cafe. The countdown is nearly over. The 95th @veloviewer The countdown is nearly over. The 95th @veloviewer Monsal Hill Climb is one day away. Yes, tomorrow is the day that 214 amazing riders take to the start line on a quiet tree lined road, in the heart of Monsal Dale.

The climb starts off flat, but soon ramps gently up and then as the road bends slightly to the right, the climb hits home. The lactic builds as the riders hear the distant chime of cowbells and then bang, the climb bites hard. For some it’s too much for others it’s a sign to put the hammer down, push even harder and smash out the watts as the crowds start to roar in their ears. The finish line beckons but it’s a long time coming, but once crossed it’s a relief it’s over. Then it’s time to find out your time…

The run up to this years event wouldn’t quite be The run up to this years event wouldn’t quite be the same with mentioning our king of Monsal and outright record holder for 44 years. In 1981, a certain young Malcolm Elliott, powered up Monsal riding for Rutland CC in an amazing 1:14.2, taking the record from another legend, Tom Simpson riding for Scala Wheelers who previously posted a 1:23.4 way back in 1957.

Some very talented riders have come close, Russ Downing, Jack Pullar, Adam Kenway and Andy Nichols have all broken 1:20, but back in 2018, Calum Brown came heartbreakingly close, just 3 tenths of a second away from the long standing and much talked about record.

With forecasts suggesting a strong tailwind on Sunday courtesy of Storm Amy, speculation is rife that the long-standing course record could be broken. Could it? We’ll see again on Sunday if the king of Monsal will still be wearing his crown for yet another year #monsalhillclimb
